The all-aluminum build makes it surprisingly easy to hand-hold for a 500mm, though the f/8 aperture means you’ll want bright daylight. Focus is manual only, but the preset ring helps lock onto a spot quickly. Solid value for getting into telephoto shots without breaking the bank.

I’ve been using this 500mm lens for bird photography and the multi-coated optics really cut down on glare, giving me sharper shots even in bright midday sun. The lightweight aluminum alloy body makes it easy to carry on long hikes without feeling weighed down.

The aluminum alloy body makes this 500mm lens feel sturdy without being too heavy to hand-hold for bird shots. I was surprised at how sharp the images turned out with the multi-coated optics, even at f/8.
